I had intended to loosen up more with this one so I don't feel such a post-painting glow today.
Below is the reference shot. Having the two together makes me realise how far out I was with angles - amongst other things. I want to master simplifying the limestone, so you can see I have a long way to go.
I like your painting Limestone Coast. I looked at some of your blog and found it very interesting. I noticed your painting of "Grass Tree" and thought of the current Carol Marine Challenge which is to paint GRASS! Your tree would be a good one for that...
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Lori! That is a great idea for Carol Marine's Challenge. Maybe I will revisit the subject in order to enter it.
DeleteVery pretty... I think seascapes are my favorite!
ReplyDeleteThanks Lynette! I love the ocean scene you did yesterday!
DeleteThere is a nice sense of depth and atmosphere, nice work Wendy!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Celia! You are such a great support!
DeleteBeautiful, Wendy! The limestone worked out very well. I find the 'Peach Blossom with Bee' also really wonderful. Indeed the blue background makes the blossom more stand out, than the previous version with yellow/ochre. The bee is lovely!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Hilje! I'm glad you thought the limestone worked. I liked it a lot more by the evening once I'd had a chance to get used to it. I'm guessing that you must be very close to finished on your painting now? I can't wait to see it!
DeleteWendy, you do not have far to go. This is a beautiful painting. It is an interesting process to have an artistic eye that can see where we need to be but aren't there yet. That is the way it is for me. I see all my mistakes but that keeps me going. To be better and learn. You have a true art spirit that comes through in all your work!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Kaethe, I really appreciate your comments. I think you are a lot further along already with loosening up. You are amazing at capturing light - something I strive for.
DeleteWhere is this if you dont mind. Nice painting :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Cindy. This is painted from a photo taken along the coastline in suburban Perth, Western Australia.
DeleteLovely, Wendy
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for visiting Cindy. I tried to comment on your blog but wasn't sure if it went through. I'm impressed that you are doing the painting challenge while holidaying at the same time!
DeleteWendy, as Kaethe said, you aren't as far off as you think! I find this type of seascape to be the most difficult, and I have several in various stages of "unfinishedness" myself. Your limestone colors especially are very nice. Keep painting!!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for the encouragement Cindy. I have enjoyed looking at your blog. I found it interesting to read how varied the state of California is. You are lucky to have so many different landscapes on your doorstep!
DeleteI agree with Kaethe Beaker about the process of an artistic eye... seeing where we need to be. This is a lovely painting!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Linda! I have been admiring your blog and love the way you capture your local landscape and the lovely big and dramatic skies. We too have wonderfully distracting skyscapes.
DeleteWendy, your painting is more pleasing to me than the photo, I like your composition and angles. ...your proficiency with the medium has increased with this challenge you've set yourself. not to mention increasing your inventory. have fun with it. Your'e doing awesome.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for the vote of confidence Sally. Your encouragement is much appreciated. I really loved your landscape painted from memory!
