Sunflower with Bud

                                             Acrylic on board  6" x 6"

I painted this sunflower today from a photo I took in January. My lovely neighbours, Gerry and Pat, had a flock of them growing in their garden and kindly let me photograph them for reference material.
I think the bud looks slightly disembodied - or should that be disembudied?

  1. Great painting, Wendy, I love sunflowers!
Amazing you have them in January, here in the Netherlands it's always freezing cold that time of year (and it actually still is!):)

  2. Thanks Hilje!
Yes, January is right in the middle of summer for us. We are still having ridiculously hot weather for this time of year - 37C (99F) yesterday!
I hope you get some lovely spring weather soon!

  5. Hi Wendy thanks for dropping by. I've just scrolled down all your blog to look at your lovely work. I generally only follow watercolour artists but your work has something that I definitely want to see more of. Wonderful stuff. Good luck with planting those bulbs.

    1. Thanks for your very lovely comments Laura.
I'm pleased to know you will be visiting again. I also love using watercolours but I tend to use them mostly for illustration - which is a passion of mine. Unfortunately though, it's a passion that is currently being neglected while I attempt to build up my acrylic skills. I will look forward to seeing your beautiful pieces as you post them.
      Enjoy your lovely Springtime.

  7. Hello Wendy!
Love the sunflower! One of my favorite flowers! Every year I "give it a go" and plant quite a few of them!
I am still amazed how wonderful it is that you can get all the fantastic art on such a small surface! Bravo!
Great job on this one! So very realistic! Love the shape, the light, and the details!
We won't get sunflowers in bloom until July!
Nice to see your art work!
    Enjoy!

    1. G'day Michael!
Thank you for your very enthusiastic and encouraging comments.
These particular sunflowers that I photographed in January are still going strong and are as pretty as ever. I can see why sunflowers are such favourites with people - they practically glow with joy.
I added yet another comment to your latest post. I fear I may have hijacked your messages!
      Bye for now!
