I finally reared up late this afternoon and finished off this picture. I was quite happy with how it came out in the end. The photo's not so great though as it was dark by the time I finished and this was taken in artificial light. Ironically, I have my daylight lamp which is great to paint by but it seemed to do weird things to the photo.
I was going for lots of great walks along the beach recently until I strained a few muscles last weekend. I feel I'll be ready to revive my walking routine tomorrow. The girls and I found some beautiful abalone shells on the beach last week. The three together are much smaller that the big one taken by itself.
Below the abalone are pictures of the beach taken a month or so ago when there was a lot of seaweed around. I find some types of seaweed to be very beautiful - like the specimen below.
The Koala's make this holiday card undeniably Australian, I love it! They are adorable and how lovely to see them in the full spirit of Christmas.
ReplyDeleteYou have such beautiful shells on your beach and if you have seaweed it is a sign of a clean ocean.Enjoy!
Thanks Celia, I hadn't heard that before - about seaweed being a sign of a clean ocean. It can be very pretty, but also a bit unsettling when swimming amongst it if it gets too thick.
DeleteWill this be your Australian Christmas card? It should be. It's very cute! Beautiful pics! What a gorgeous beach!
ReplyDeleteThanks Kaethe, it is the plan to use this design for Christmas but it depends how quickly I can organise to get them printed up. I'm waiting to get a quote at the moment.
DeleteHurrah!! It is such a cute card Wendy! great job. lucky you to be beachwalking...those treasures found along the way are wonderful little gifts from nature.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Sally! Yes, it's always special to find little wonders of nature along the way. I've had to stop walking in the very soft sand for a while as I've hurt my back, but thankfully I'm OK to keep walking on the paths.
DeleteThe koalas look fab Wendy. Very Christmasy. I love abalone. I used to use it all the time when I used to make costume jewellery for my business. I have never seen it in its shell form though. So very interesting to see your photos. Hope you get back to fitness soon. Take care.
ReplyDeleteThanks Laura, how lovely to have worked with abalone. Do you have any photos of the jewellery you used to make? I'd love to see it!
DeleteWhat a great idea to put two Koalas under the umbrella , so sweet ! And the title is perfect ! I would love to live by the sea all year round, am quite envious ! Wish you a nice weekend. xx
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Jane. Yes I do feel very lucky to live close to the Indian Ocean - it is different every day, but always beautiful!
DeleteI love your painting, what could be better than koalas on a beach for Christmas.
ReplyDeleteThose shells are beautiful.
Von.

ReplyDeleteI'm glad you can start walking again, I have just started after having a sore foot for more than a month!! I really missed my morning walk it's like meditation for me!
Hi Karen, you are very kind!
DeleteI'm glad to hear you are walking again. I am lucky to still be walking despite a sore back that hasn't been improving much at all. The walking helps to loosen it up. I also find walking quite meditational at times.
Awww... they are so cute!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Lynette! You are the queen of cute animals!
DeleteWhat a great Aussie Christmas painting! Love it !
ReplyDeleteBeautiful shells!
Glad you're back walking again. :-D

ReplyDeleteYou are too kind Hilje! I love your very stunning "Ocho Nucleos" I hope you had a great weekend!
DeleteG'Day Cobber!
ReplyDeleteThis is your USA Mate, Michael! Sorry I haven't been writing or posting lately. We were on holiday. A cruise to the Western Caribbean for almost two weeks. Very limited internet access! We had a grand time but I so missed checking out my art buddies' blogs! Especially yours! I feel like a stranger and I have the need to reintroduce myself! So, I am back and eager to talk about your wonderful art! Okay, so first, I love, love your Koalas on the beach! So much fun! So very Australian! Made me smile the instant I saw the painting. You should be very happy with this work. If you use it as a Christmas card it certainly will be bring so much joy to all your friends! I love Koalas and I love the beach and ocean! Great!!!! I also love the photos of the shells and the sea weed! And I most definitely love the photo of the waves crashing on the beach! I am so very happy you and your girls have the opportunity to walk the beach! Savor every second! I love the smells, the sounds, the sights, the sounds, and even the taste of the ocean! Good for you! Life is so short! I am so glad your leg is okay and you will be back walking again! After reading your blog I am going to Plymouth tomorrow and walk "my" little Massachusetts beach! Tomorrow's weather will be cold and cloudy! The beach will be windy and cold! I hope it rains a bit! Just the way I love it! I will take many photos! So good to be back "talking" with you Mate! Now off to paint something to post for "Veterans' Day!"
G'Night Cobber!
Michael
G'day Michael! I'm so glad you had such a wonderful cruise around the Carribean! How utterly exotic!! I did miss your upbeat posts and comments for those two weeks.
DeleteI'm glad my post brought a smile to your face. It is nice to think that you are also enjoying your beaches in the very same ways that I enjoy mine even though they are on the opposite sides of the planet. The ocean is always stunning in every mood, there is nothing like stormy weather for creating some drama. I guess you will be enjoying lots of stormy seas soon! Maybe you can post some of the photos some time!
I hope your Veteren's Day" painting is going well.
Seeya! Your Art Cobber Wendy
Your painting is adorable. It's artistically rendered, with a subject that pulls a smile right away, and leaves the viewer feeling happy, and charmed, like I too, have been to the beach today! I can't believe you found those beautiful shells! I'm jealous!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Katherine! I'm glad you enjoyed the post and could visit the beach vicariously. I think I will make a point of posting some more shells soon. I have collections of them that I've gathered over the years. It can be quite a meditation to sift through them. I love the experimental work you did recently!
DeleteThe painting is so cute!!
ReplyDeleteThanks Catharina!
