Geraldton Wax - Day Eight

I sketched this from the beautiful bunch of Geraldton Wax that my sister gave me yesterday from her garden. Geraldton Wax is a native to Western Australia.

  1. Wendy - beautiful sketch and what gorgeous flowers. Have never seen these before. Do they grow wild? Such a soft pink. Make such a lovely bouquet! Have a beautiful day.

    1. Thanks Debbie, yes these flowers are native to an area a couple of hundred miles north of Perth but they naturalise here very easily and are found in many gardens and bushland. They make beautiful cut flowers.

    1. Thanks so much Celia! I'm glad you like our native flowers - hopefully you'll get to see them in the flesh one of these days!

  3. Nice job on the flowers and the grapefruit below. Isn't it great when you can eat your subject?

    1. Thanks Joan! Yes, it does add to getting to know your subject thoroughly doesn't it? As usual I love all your sketches - even doing this 30 day challenge I'm still not pumping them out as prolifically as you! your output is amazing - and such great quality!

  4. I remember that plant from when we lived in Oz, but I never knew the name of it. It's an unusual name! Your sketch is great!

    1. Thanks Sally! "Geraldton" is the town where they originate from and "wax" is due to the waxy feel to the petals. I wasn't aware that they were grown in the east as well.

  5. Nice blog, good drawings, are the basis of all art is my opinion, your blog is full of good drawings, spontaneous but well built.
    Congratulations.
    Greetings.

  6. Beautiful flower. I find that one of the benefits of painting is that I learn the names of plants and animals that I wouldn't know otherwise.
