One of my Favourites - Day Ten

I knew I had a lot to get done today so last night I decided to get ahead by doing a sketch in the adverts while I watched Midsomer Murders on TV. I was too lazy to set up a still-life on the coffee table and decided to simply sketch the mug I had just drunk my tea from. It is one of my favourite mugs - Sarah's Garden by Wedgwood. I only got as far as the ink work last night and today I added the watercolour.

I meant to post these extra photos yesterday from when I was in the garden sketching my tree, so I thought I'd add them into this post.

Below are some of the spring flowers in my garden - this beautiful blue one is lechenaultia and is found in the wild near Perth.

Freesias below - native to South Africa I think.

Daisies - wouldn't have a clue where these are native to.

And my lovely climbing rose. These close-ups belie that my garden is in a very dilapidated state at the moment and needs a LOT of work.

Oh yes, I found our resident Bob Tail Goanna this morning in the undergrowth and my daughter fed it some blueberries. The lizard whisperer strikes again!

  1. I have a weakness for china and your favorite cup is really lovely. And I envy you the season, we are heading towards autumn here, and as much as I love the colors I still prefer Spring .

    1. Thank you Jane! Yes, china is a real weakness of mine too. Even though every season has it's attributes, I agree that spring is the most divine of seasons

  2. Nice job on the mug. I like seeing it in ink before you added the color. Lovely photos of your garden and I like the previous sketch of the tree trunk.

I've never seen a lizard like that. Cute!

    1. Thanks Joan! I'm glad you enjoyed the flowers! This is one of at least two goannas that live in our yard. Sometimes we can go almost a year without a sighting but lately we've seen quite a bit of them - spring seems to be when they are most active.

  3. Wow Wendy - excellent sketch. I just love this cup. I have so much trouble drawing ellipses - you do it so well. Loved seeing your gorgeous flowers
    - those blue ones are beautiful. Loved seeing your lizard whisper. I never thought about lizards being so tame. Can I come visit and sit by your tree - looks like the best painting spot to me. I so enjoy seeing your part of the world. Have a great day.

    1. You are very kind Debbie! I actually enjoy the challenge of drawing ellipses but they can also drive me crazy.
The goannas and lizards aren't tame really, my daughter is able to catch them easily and once she has them they are pretty docile as she has a way with them - and being fed blueberries keeps them happy too. I hope you're having a great day!

  4. I love the cup too. I have a weakness for ink and paint together. It just draws me in. I can't wait to check out your children's books.

    Lizard whisperer...that cracks me up!

  5. Thanks so much for visiting my blog Lillian. Yes, there is something very appealing about ink and paint - I think for me it has a nice old-fashioned quality to it. Glad you like my Lizard Whisperer - I did an initial post in May about her when she was a child and drawing a little lizard from life.
