Blogger Friends

The other day I met up with my art blogger friend Karen Johnston who was holidaying here in Perth. We enjoyed a lovely lunch together at Hillarys Marina. It was so exciting to meet face to face and to be able to chat about art together. It is the first time I have met up with a blog buddy - such fun!
Karen is a New Zealand artist who does amazing work in oils. click here to see the beautiful work on her blog. Hopefully it will be the first of many catch ups.

There has been a lot happening here with my youngest daughter going through the final throes of graduating from high school and getting through the last of her exams. Lots of stress and excitement all at once. I'm still getting a bit of time for creativity and am halfway through a small painting that I hope to finish in the next few days. I'm also making some progress on my writing. I hope you are all having a great weekend!

    1. I'm glad you got to see Karen's work Celia! Yes, we did have so much to talk about - the time went in a flash!
Thanks for the kind wishes for my daughter. She got her most dreaded exam out of the way on Saturday - her French oral. So she is feeling quite relieved.
It felt very strange waking up this morning on a Monday and not have to do the school run. A new era has begun!

    1. Thanks Helen, yes it was so nice to meet up with Karen, and if ever you make it across to Perth it would be lovely to meet up with you too.
Good on you for getting three kids through high school. It feels like a bit of a marathon when they are going through their final year. Even more so for them of course, ha ha!!

  9. What a change in your household when your youngest child graduates! I will look forward to hearing your thoughts as you go through these next milestones in your life. For they are not just milestones to your daughter, they are huge changes to your own life. That's wonderful that you met a blogger friend face to face. I'm curious whether you found yourself at a loss for words, or if you had plenty to talk about? I once met a blog friend at an art convention, and after we said hello and complimented each other's work... we stood there wondering what to say, and ended up saying 'glad to meet you' and walking away!

  10. Hi Katherine, It's a shame the meeting with your blog friend turned out to be a little brief and awkward. Thankfully my meeting with Karen went very well. As soon as we spotted each other, (easily recognisable from our profile pics) we gave each other a hug and didn't stop talking from then on - mainly about art and blogging. It might have been easier for us because we had a one on one meeting. I imagine it could be trickier at a convention where there are so many people about and so many distractions.

Yes, I can already see that there will be a lot of changes to the structure of my days at least. Urban Australian kids (or Perth kids at least) mostly stay at home while attending university, we have four or five universities here in Perth which between them offer a fully comprehensive and quality range of degrees. So there isn't that sudden empty nest experience that you probably get over there as soon as your youngest goes to college.
I've enjoyed seeing your "Poe" work come to fruition!

  12. Hello Wendy!
How great is life! How wonderful art is! I am thrilled that you and your New Zealand art buddy got together! It would be marvelous if all our wonderful art blogging friends could do the same! Of course it would have to take place on the beach in Australia! Good luck to your daughter and to you! I can only imagine the changes that about to take place in both your worlds. I hope the both of you are keeping journals! I may have mentioned this before but I am a retired elementary and middle school teacher. Thirty five years total. One of the best things I do and that I urged my students to do is to keep a writing journal or diary. Life's memories are so very precious. So important to jot them down daily for future enjoyment and wonderful memories. I am so happy to be back blogging after being on holiday for awhile! Take care mate!
    Your dear art cobber!
    Michael
