Back on the Acrylics Horse

Cervantes Sky
Acrylic on board 15cm x 15cm (6" x 6")

I realised with horror that it was about eleven months since I last painted in acrylics. I hadn't noticed how many months had passed because I was keeping up with the arty stuff in the form of my pen drawings. Although, even the pen-work had dropped off lately. Time to revive my one-painting-a-week habit! The above painting was inspired by the two photos below which I took on our beach holiday to Cervantes in December last year.

The photo below was taken of a local Perth sunset a few weeks back.

On the weekend I had a day out in the city with my youngest daughter. She wanted to visit the farmer's market at City Farm and have brunch at the cafe. Twenty years ago it used to be a scrap metal yard on the edge of the CBD - now it is thriving with fruit and vegetables.

It was a great day to be in the city. There was such a great vibe with thousands coming in to enjoy the public art performance of two giant marionettes here for the arts festival.
I loved the colourful "lanterns" that were strung through the trees.

I took the photo below for you Michael Perchard! It stands near
the Art Gallery of Western Australia. "The Caller".

Below is one of the two giants that visited for the opening of the Perth International Arts Festival. She was scootering down the street when we saw her.

  1. I love how you combined the three photos into your painting. Lovely!! Michael will be touched that you thought of him. My niece, Kathleen Szalay choreographed and performed a dance in the Fringe World Festival this weekend, titled "Dear Fred, I Need More Romance." I wish I had been there to see her perform it.

    1. Thanks Joan! How wonderful for your niece to have been a part of the Fringe World Festival. I just googled "Dear Fred..." and it looks like it would have been great to see. I didn't get to see any Fringe stuff unfortunately. Do you think she will be doing something for it next year? I will keep my eyes out for her!

  3. Hey Mate! Love "Cervantes Sky!" Love that you replaced the calm sky from your reference photo with the wild clouds from the second shot! I so love clouds and ocean scenes together! Also love all the activity going on at the beach! It amazes me how you got all the wonderful visual art on such a small surface! Bravo! Welcome back to acrylics! The Acrylic Art World missed you!
Of course I love the sunset beach scene at Perth! Ahhh! How I miss the beautiful ocean!
Fantastic that the metal scrap yard was replaced by so many beautiful fruits and vegetables!
The colorful lanterns pop out of the tree! At first I thought they were exotic Australian fruit or flowers!
Love seeing all the happy people outside enjoying the cafe! It certainly sounds like you had a great day! Yippee!
Thanks for the shout out to me! So nice to be thought of!!! I very much love the statue "The Caller!"I so appreciate your kindness buddy! Maybe the statue is calling everyone all over the world to make peace and art!!! Wouldn't that be nice! Thanks Wendy!
