Dappled Light at Houghton

                                                    Acrylic on board 15cm x 15cm

I've been making excuses lately about not having time to paint because of being on a writing bender. While it's true that I've been writing at every available opportunity, it doesn't mean I can't make more effort to fit things in around it. In fact, I had been managing creative balance quite well for a year or two but I got derailed when I hurt my back last October and haven't managed to get back on track since. Michael Perchard's comment on my previous post somehow permeated my writing fog and I now hope to revive my weekly painting habit. Thanks Michael!

  1. love the dappled light captured in your painting Wendy, how busy you must be with your writing and painting. I seem to just manage with painting and keeping up with the washing and ironing!

    1. Thanks Lorraine, I'm certainly not a paragon of domesticity when I'm embroiled in writing and painting. Unfortunately, there just isn't enough time in a day!

    1. Thanks so much Joan! Yes, Michael's comment was a great motivator. But how quickly the week passes and already I must decide on my next subject matter! I can't even begin to imagine how you manage to paint daily - and such varied subjects!

    1. Thank you for such a wonderful compliment Sally! The Boating Party has always been a favourite painting of mine. I was pleased to be able to get a little closer to an impressionist style than usual. I had to actively hold myself back from adding more detail into the figures!

  9. Good on you Wendy! I only hope I didn't pressure you into painting too much! But I must admit I am glad you did this one! I love it! I so enjoy the way you handled the lights and darks. That dappling effect is beautiful! You created tremendous harmony! A visual treat! It reminds me so much of so many of the beautiful impressionists works! I agree with all the other comments! Love what Katherine wrote, "sense of happiness and well-being!" so true! So bravo on you!
(Thank you for the supportive comment yesterday. Still so sad but carrying on!

    2. You didn't pressure me at all Michael - it was a timely and much appreciated comment. I suddenly realised how many weeks had passed since my last painting. My wildlife pictures and old paintings could only fill the gap for so long!
I'm very happy that you like the painting and that you and Sally felt it reminded you of the impressionists. A great compliment indeed! It is a style that I want to learn how to do well.
Now I need to think of the next thing to paint as it is already a week since I posted this. The weeks pass in a blur!
I LOVE the portraits you are doing!
      Your art blogger cobber,

P.S. Thanks for the encouragement with the back. I need it at times. Sorry to hear that you too suffer from it.

    1. You are very kind Laura! I'm glad you felt I managed an impressionist style - it is something I often aspire to but just as often fall short of! Hopefully I'll be able to continue in this vein! I love the delicate flowers you have been doing of late!
