Blue and Orange Cups

                                            Acrylic on board  6" x 6"

I thoroughly enjoyed myself painting this today.  I began drawing in the outline yesterday and finished it off today - 4 or 5 hours in total.  I had to interrupt the flow at one point to whiz out to collect my daughter and her friend from an outing.  I had dropped them off a couple of hours earlier and as we drove along the coast, the colours in the ocean were gob-smacking - lots of greens and aquas.  I was itching to capture the beauty. So when I went to collect them later I took my camera and stopped along the way to take a few shots.  The colours had lessened marginally owing to the sun's position.  It is always at it's most glorious, colour-wise, in the mornings and early afternoons owing to the glare later in the afternoon as the sun heads inevitably towards the horizon. The sea breeze was smacking in and all was perfect, except for not being able to linger, as I had girls to collect and a picture to paint.

  1. Hi Wendy, (my newest art bloggy peep)
I have just spent the past 15 minutes enjoying your blog, and what a delight it's been. On the contrary to what you felt about your seascape, i feel it works quite well. And I just love these teacups! Fun, joyful, and sensitively painted all at the same time.
I see that you live in Australia, so lucky to be enjoying that marvelous coastline.
I think that one can certainly see improvement even only painting once a week. It's all i had time for when my children were small, and it is such a satisfying pursuit. All the best. thanks for visiting my blog and your kind words.

    1. Thank you so much Sally! I really appreciated your lovely comments about the cups - I so enjoyed painting them. It heartens me to hear that you think once a week is enough to see improvements. I certainly feel that there have been some improvements over the last year, even though I realise I still have a lot to learn.
I see that you spent a few years in Australia on the east coast, as well as living in Europe and other places. Such an enriching life you lead!
I will enjoy visiting your blog regularly - I love the exotic snowy scenes!
      Happy painting!

I am amazed that you were able to get so much wonderful art on such a small surface.
    Bravo!

  4. Hi Michael,
Thanks for your very encouraging comments! I actually find I'm more in my comfort zone working small, but I have been thinking that I'd like to attempt some much larger paintings soon.
    I'm really enjoying your blog!!
    Wendy

  5. I am enjoying reading your blog. It's fun to me that we both speak English, but our idioms are different. Gob-smacking isn't a word we use in Texas, but I did understanding the meaning. Fun!

  6. Hi Virginia, I'm glad you enjoyed visiting my blog. Yes, I too love the differences in both accents and idioms in other parts of the world. It makes for a much richer experience of other countries and is a lot of fun. I'll bet there are a lot of characterful expressions that have originated in Texas!
